North Hollywood, California, December 25, 1974 (UPI) It was reported today that singer/songwriter Annie Kent, drummer for the rock group the Honeybears, was arrested early this morning on counts of driving while intoxicated, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Kent, 28, was picked up by local L.A.P.D. when she was seen driving erratically along Route 101 near Highland Avenue around 5 am PST. Police attempted to stop the rented blue Ford Mustang convertible, eventually chasing the car onto local streets. Kent allegedly hit a fire hydrant before stopping. She then got out of the car and proceeded to argue with police, refusing to submit to a sobriety test.

Policeman Allen Taverna, who was on the scene said that Kent was "clearly intoxicated and completely out of control". She fought with police for several minutes using "foul language and gestures" before she was taken into custody and put in the back of a police car for her own safety. The singer then continued to behave in a belligerent fashion, eventually kicking out the window on the passenger's side. Taverna said "We were shocked that someone that small could do that kind of damage so quickly".

A small glass vial containing traces of a white powder which police suspect to be cocaine was found in the singer's purse along with several bottles of prescription pharmaceuticals. She was held in custody for several hours, eventually let go on $25,000 bail which was posted by her manager, Michael Ludlow. Ludlow, along with Kent's legal council, took her from the station house to a waiting car. When asked about the situation, Ludlow said "There will be no statement at this time."

This is not the first drug-related problem for Kent who, along with her estranged husband, former Beatle George Harrison, was arrested for possession of marijuana at their London home in 1969. Kent was found not guilty of those charges when her husband assumed full responsibility for the drugs in question. Kent and Harrison were married in 1966 and have a 7 year old daughter, Katherine Alexandria. They separated earlier this year when Kent alleged left Harrison for his best friend, guitarist Eric Clapton. A source close to Kent said that she has been "under considerable stress this year due to the split with George. It's not surprising at all. She's just been an accident waiting to happen." Kent's fellow bandmates and her husband could not be reached for comment.
